Successful Channel Management Plans


Channel management is critical for channel marketing in order for the system to be successful. There needs to be a balance of investment from each of the partners into the channel in order for the full channel to be profitable. When comparing a company's contribution to the rest of the channel's productivity, several consequences can result. If the company is putting more into the channel than the rest of the channel's input, they will begin to back-peddle and might not turn out as high a performance level to keep the channel efficient. On the other hand, if the channel is putting more into the pot than the company itself is performing, the rest of the partners in the channel might migrate away from this partner.

The optimal channel management program will ensure that both the channel members and any one company's contribution are equal and maintained at that level. This will result in an extremely productive and successful channel market. The worst case scenario of any channel management program is to see indifference between channel members and a partner. Indifference is usually a sign of a dying channel and should be avoided at any cost.
