Partner Relationship Management Info


Channel partners are an important component in a sales channel. Therefore, it is important to have some sort of partner relationship management in place. Knowing what a channel partner does for your channel will help you to smooth out the process of a transaction within your sales channel. While a customer does not see the distinctions between you and your partners in the sales channel, there are important things to factor in about each partner. In essence, channel partners fill a crucial void between you and the customer, whether the customer sees it or not. Customers who purchase your product or service through the indirect channel see no real distinction between you and your partners. So, the partner, in effect, is you, or at least your immediate proxy; and that partner is basically your customer contact.

The purpose of partner relationship management is to manage the process between a salesperson and a buyer. Knowing how each partner is involved in a transaction will help you to see how to improve the process and where the strengths of the sales channel are. The process involves collecting and sharing data throughout the customer lifecycle, from lead to prospect to close, and becomes, by the end, a more efficient process to lead to more profits.

Partner relationship management is also designed to manage business relationships between multiple independent partners and a main vendor. In other words, partner relationship management is about aligning business processes across the entire value chain: vendor, partner, and customer.

There are many other types of management programs that can be used in conjunction with partner relationship management, but none of them should be used to replace the management within the sales channel. Different management programs focus on different aspects of the sales channel. While partner relationship management focuses on the process of the channel from the one partner to the customer, there are other programs that might focus on just the customer. Partner relationship management provides the information necessary for each partner to build their own success.
