Every partner in the channel will at one point rely on another partner's business endeavors and information. This makes it important for partner relationship management to only allow certain information and partners into the system. It is one of the main processes that drive revenue to the end customer.
In order to work effectively with partners in a channel, it is important to have tools that help to manage the different relationships. Partner relationship management allows for greater efficiency and greater effectiveness. With each partner being able to manage and direct their relationships with other partners, it is easier for the channel to make more business and better decisions. As a channel grows and brings in more partners to meet the demands of business, the sheer volume of partners and complexity has left channel aching for something like partner relationship management. There are layers of complexity that have to be dealt with. The biggest thing that is driving the creation of partner relationship management is the rise of the Internet; having a universal network that allowed multiple companies to work together without having to coordinate their entire technical infrastructure.
