Basics Of Channel Marketing

Channel marketing consists of different partners, from manufacturers to resellers, each seeking to meet their own business objectives. Because each partner is in a sales channel for their own reason, they will need different information than another partner in order to be successful. For channel marketing to be successful relationships between partners must be strong and they need to be in clear understanding and trust with others on whom they depend for product distribution to flow smoothly.

There are two main types of channel marketing systems. Depending on the type of market and the number of partners in the sales channel, they can be independent or dependent. Independent channel marketing allows each of the partners to work independently of one another. This means that they have more freedom and can make decisions that will benefit themselves. While this is convenient for the partner, it might not be as beneficial to the other partners in channel marketing.

Dependent channel marketing is more common in many types of markets. A dependent sales channel is more involved between partners. The decisions that one partner makes have an effect on the rest of the partners. Therefore, there is more management and organization to the sales channel. Channel marketing, both independent and dependent, help different partners to gain business and to find new partnerships within a market.
